Research

In this section you can find demos, screenshots and videos from various real-time rendering techniques that we have experimented with. Hopefully everything in this section will be included in the engine in the near future.

Illuminated Soft Particles

Soft particle rendering is a technique for eliminating hard edges when a billboard intersects the opaque scene. By fading out particle's alpha as it approaches the opaque geometry, no hard edges are visible, resulting in a more volumetric look for the particle system. The soft particles's view in this video also demonstrates simple illumination from a directional light source.

Volumetric Cloud Rendering

The sky plays an important role in outdoor scenes. One of the key elements for a more photorealistic sky is clouds. This is a simple demo video (taken from inside our custom cloud editor) which illustrates our cloud rendering implementation. Clouds are true volumetric objects, meaning that you can fly through them. Static formation and dissipation is also supported.

Real-time indirect lighting using obscurances

This demo presents our implementation of the obsurances technique for real-time indirect lighting as described by Iones et al. in the paper : Fast realistic lighting for video games
